Done

I believe I have now completed all my assignments for both classes. To some degree I am breathing a sigh of relief, but I am not completely finished because there are others that need help in getting their web page completed. When we're all finished, only then I can truly breathe.

Boot Camp

I don't think the professors were kidding when the referred to the first semester as "Boot Camp". The courses were indeed challenging. Many things were neglected throughout the course of the semester.

We're literally down to the last couple days and I'm still trying to get my web page in tact.

Wow.

Tecnological Woes

It is 8:47 am. I have been on this computer for the last hour and a half trying to get clues on the Thoreau assignment. As I sit here making every effort as I have for the past week trying to get this done, I wonder how are people who are not on vacation like myself coping? I could only imagine how difficult this is for them and I sincerely sympathize.

My vacation is winding down and I am already trying to figure out how in the world I am going to do my best on the job and in my classes simultaneously. I can only hope and pray that future classes don't painfully boggle my brain as much as 2600 does. Technology is always challenging for those of us who are simply mediocre at it. I can't imagine what it feels like for those who are not very experienced. LIS 2000 has its own challenges but I am able to see my way through it with far less agony.

In the end I am hoping that with all that is plaguing me with the technological portion of my learning, I am able to master the skills that it offers.

The Heat Is On

As I sit here in this sweltering heat I reminisce on song "96 Degrees in the Shade". In the Virgin Islands summers are very hot even though one can catch a faint breeze from time to time. With this type of heat, it is very difficult at times to concentrate. Most houses on the islands are not equipped with air condition units; therefore, one does not have the luxury of escaping summer's warmth in their homes. Fans render absolutely no relief and all one can do is wear as little as possible in an effort to get some relief.

As the semester winds down the temperature on St. Croix is rising and this makes it hard for me to sit and focus on my reading assignments. I have picked up "Infotopia" at least six times and can't seem to get past the first chapter so I decided to work on my technology assignment until the coolness of the evening offers some comfort.

Kompozer

I am getting extremely frustrated with Kompozer. I cannot figure out or explain why things are disappearing from my web page any time I attempt to make a change or addition through Kompozer. My feed has disappeared. My blog isn't connecting like it was last night and a whole host of other issues are arising as I try to complete the web page.

Web Page Dillema

I have been working on my web page for quite some time. I am unable to see the RSS feed on my page. This assignment is agonizing. There are a lot of ups and down. One time something works and another times they don't. What is going on?

Web Page

Several of us are still trying to complete our web page. Our goal is to stay in this library until it is done and over with.

The Bug

Right now I am totally ill and my group members are trying to stay far in an effort not to catch my bug. We are all at the library starting with our book discussion.

Focus

Funny. The course semester is coming to an end in two weeks but somehow I don't feel any excitement. I guess because I am operating on what is and not what is to come. This semester has certainly been keeping me on my toes. There is still a lot more work to be done and I can't afford to start relaxing; at least not yet.

Still Trying

After taking another look at my zoom clouds, I realize that there is absolutely nothing listed for my Connotea which was completed some time back. Some of us are back at it again. Trying, trying, trying.

Hmmm

Last night I spent several hours with my group trying to get our web pages published. Of course the long hours did not pay off and we will be back at it again tomorrow. Today I was able to view many on the wonderful web pages that others have put together and was wondering why my group and I couldn't get ours done? I also saw an announcement about a session to be conducted for individuals who are stuck on assignments and was wondering what arrangements were made for those who cannot physically make it to get the necessary help.

Things that make me go hmmm.

Baffled

I'm puzzled. Usually whenever one is assessed or take a test, the results of the test is made available to them. The main reason this occurs is so the tester can review and learn from the mistakes that were made or gloat over the full points that were earned. So, again, I'm a little baffled because I have not been given the opportunity to look at my mistakes.

Weary

What can I say today other than I'm exhausted. The program that I committed myself to a year ago has begun and I'm drained. After it completion next week I will have to submit my notification letter of not continuing the summer program. MLIS has taken over everything.

Big Scare

Earlier this morning one of my group members contacted me in fear because course web was not up and running. It was 10:30 am. Naturally I too became a little concerned not just for myself but for everyone who had to meet the 12:00 deadline for posting a response to the question answered by another classmate. At about 11:00 am. I decided to check the site and sure enough I didn't gain access. A sigh of relief came 10 minutes later when I was able to log on. I'm sure you could imagine the relief when my classmate was informed about this.

Web Page

Last night I spent 5 hours trying to create a web page. Setting the page up was not very difficult; however, publishing it was. Of course this was the first time attempting web page set up. Perhaps it is my inexperience that prohibited me from getting through the next step or perhaps the help tool needs to be clarified.

Larger frames and prints necessary

I find that the windows that provide examples of what we should be seeing are too small. It is almost impossible to view the example when everything is so tiny.

Historical Events Takes A Backseat

Today is one of the most important days for African American in the U.S Virgin Islands. Today we celebrate the emancipation of these islands. Usually I'm able to participate in all the activities that commemorate our history. Unfortunately, my classes do not allow me to partake in any of the events. I now have to constantly be on the ball with assignments.

Speaking of assignments, Zoom Clouds have been giving me a difficult time. I am not able to get the data from Connotea and Delicious exported via Zoom Clouds into my blog.

Concerns for the Eyes

After two days, I was finally able to wrap up the book review due today. I must say this one was extremely challenging and took everything out of me. After I was finished my eyes could no longer take the strain of looking at any other printed material and I was forced to shut them because pain and dryness.

After this experience, concerns grew for the upcoming generation who spend endless hours viewing television screens, computer screens, and video games. How will these devices affect their long term vision?

Very Cloudy with Chances of Rain

We're all here at the library trying to figure out how to complete cloud tagging. Many are experiencing problems locating an RSS feed for delicious and connotea. Some have successfully found a feed but are unable to view the customize feature of the clouds imported in blog. So we're going back and forth in an attempt to complete these clouds. Patience is wearing thin because there is also built up anxiety about the book review that is also due within a few days.

Things are gloomy and all are stressed as the days begin to close in on us. The race is on and everything still seems to be cloudy.

We still have a long way to go and neither of us are close to finishing.

Grieving

Today is not one of my better days. My family and I are currently dealing with the unjustifiable lost of my brother. I'm unable to concentrate and am feeling a little confused at this time. I have to get myself in gear for reviewing the books assigned for the end of this week.

All I can do at this point is pray for strength and understanding.

Vacation

I am jumping for joy now because I just began my two weeks vacation. Hopefully this will allow me enough time to really accomplish many of the assigned tasks for the courses. I usually do my best work before sun down so staying home would allow me a solid block of time to prepare and complete the lessons.

Request for Luck

I have been trying everything possible to export Zotero for the past week. I have even given every advice and suggestion a try and am still not getting it accomplished. I must say this one has got me stomped. I only have this weekend to complete the assignment.

Wish me luck.

VI Cohort In St. Thomas

This weekend the Virgin Islands Cohort met on the St. Thomas campus. Members of both islands had an opportunity to meet and greet each other. We also had the experience of sitting in a class session with both Dr. Alman and Dr. Tomer. There presence allowed us to clarify many of the questions and concerns that were lingering about the courses and the program. We all spent two full days together recieving course insructions from both professors and also engaged in three preseantations that were assigned. The sessions were stimulating, informative, and pleasurable.

I thank the St. Thomas group for providing transportation to and from the site. We all are looking forward to the next meeting in the fall.

No Rest for the Weary

Well, I have been at this importing and exporting task for over 12 hours and am very frustrated at this point. I have only gotten 3 hours of sleep and was up again at 5:00 am. trying to complete the assignment. Yeah , yeah, I know it's due next week, but so is everything else.

Discussion Board

Over the last few weeks, I have come to rely heavily on the discussion board for clarifications on any given assignment or topic. I realized that many of my classmates are experiencing some of the same technical problems as I do and have asked the same questions.

My hat goes off to those classmates who have been very helpful in their response. Many have provided vital information needed to complete certain tasks.

Collaboration is one of the keys to success.

Thanks to all.

Meeting with the Heads

This weekend the Virgin Islands Cohort will be meeting with the professors. I think we're all a little anxious but we're prepared to go all day as planned. I wish we all meet Debbie Day since we've had to communicate with her often. Sorry Deb. Perhaps next time.

Tackling Assignments

I am now realizing I must approach these courses one assignment at a time. This week has been extremely demanding. There are so many different things to keep track of. This week I made up my mind to tackle the assignments that could be done within 24 hours. So far it's working.
Let's see what happens next week.

Exporting issues

Ok. I'm loosing my mind here. I did everything I needed to for exporting connotea and it's not working.

What in the world am I doing wrong?

Online Conference

It's amazing how technology has evolved. Sunday night I had an opportunity to participate in an online video conference. Although those of us who participated in the Virgin Islands were unable to be heard, I thought the process was interesting. I hope that all the kinks or problems that we were all experiencing are corrected soon. I look forward to having a smooth internet video conference the next time we meet.

Fast Track

Well, another week has passed and I am exhausted. This train (MLIS FastTrack) seems to be moving at lightning speed and I am trying my very best to keep up. It's not easy. As a matter of fact I have lost one pound so far. No telling what will happen in the weeks to come.

Deadlines to Meet

Have anyone been getting a strange security message when trying to access Pitt's library with VPN? Since this blog might not be the appropriate place to write the message, I put in the technical questions section of the discussion board. In the meantime, I have been trying over and over again to gain access to no avail. Time is running out and I have a discussion question to answer for course 2000.

In addition to this problem, I have been waiting for a password and/or log in from since last week to establish an account with kohawc. To date I cannot seem to find the information needed to set up the account. Oh, and I dear not forget that this week I must also wait for a userID and password to set up an account on EndNote Web.

Perhaps someone could help me or tell me where on blackboard to look. I have searched my gmail and pittmail and still have not found a single thing.

I truly become disgruntled when I am not meeting deadlines, so please pardon me.

DELL's Diagnosis

Earlier this month DELL and I met a new acquaintance "Information Technologies". Our reliable and trusted new friend introduced us to many of his associates (tools and software). We were asked to invite them into our home and so we did. Since then DELL has not been responding to my commands like he used.

Anyway Saturday we did our usual work together. As we were about to sign out for the afternoon, we became startled by an unexpected salesman (Mozilla) saying that I was selected for getting a FREE laptop. Immediately my guard went up as I wondered if this salesman had perhaps gain access through a back door. I declined the offer seeing that it was too good to be true.

Yesterday DELL and I ensued yet another afternoon of work and without warning we were knocked off the World Wide Web. In shock, I decided to run to the Spyware Doctor which was downloaded from Google. To our amazement the good doctor diagnosed DELL with 95 viruses two of which are extremely bad. Baffled, I said to DELL how could this have happened if you have been inoculated with Norton and McAfee anti virus. Not knowing what to do, I left the doctor's office.

Now we're in a quandary because as his guardian am not sure what to do. I thought I had done what was necessary to protect DELL.

Help!

Weekend Blues

The weekend is here, a long one at that and it seems as though I'm going have to try very hard to catch my breath. Most of my time will be spent trying to get a head start for the upcoming week. This past week was very stressful and I felt as though I didn't quite make the mark because I'm still trying to iron out a few things, get comfortable with the demand of the courses and manage everything else.

But hey, I have faith that everything will work out and all will be well.

Discovering Computers

Hey, I am really appreciating "Discovering Computers 2008". It is truly a great reference book. I am finally learning about the various components that I wasn't aware of before. With this kind of information I'm certain that I'll be able to find exactly what I want in the next system I purchase.

Reading Assignments

Just when I thought I got the hang of it, today I came across the OCLC Perceptions of Libraries and Information Resources, which turns out to be another book. So now I'm confused as to whether or not I am to purchase this reading material for this week.

Perhaps I'm not clear on the require text for this class. My understanding is that "Discovering Computers 2008" is the only required book for this course. Am I suppose to purchase the one mentioned for this week and if not how do I get the reading material?

Novice

Hello All,

I am a novice at blogging but I'll become very good at it in a short time.

By the way, is there anyone out there that is surviving Khun's jargon?
